In the 2025 exhibition Berlin Sex Spaces, we will break the silence on Berlin’s history of public sex spaces. We will invite visitors to experience the story of sexual freedom, lust, excitement, and secrecy that surrounded these spaces, coupled with a history of loss and oppression as political eras changed. We aim to involve Berlin communities and artists in composing this historical narrative, as well as addressing current politics regarding subculture spaces in Berlin today and their sustainability and value for the city. Through this exhibition, a unique aspect of Berlin’s past and current culture, traditionally veiled and kept in “dark rooms”, can be shared and honored.

Berlin Sex Spaces will offer an engaging immersive interactive experience that paints a picture of different kinds of sex spaces throughout history. Take a selfie in the Eldorado, enter a replica of a contemporary dark room and learn about dark room etiquette, explore interactive maps, listen to audio interviews about gay cruising locations, look at life-size photographs, examine sex club artifacts.
